Practicing Prodependence

The Clinical Alternative to Codependency Treatment

What if we stopped labeling people for loving someone who struggles—and started helping them love in healthier ways?

That question helped inspire Practicing Prodependence, co-written by Dr. Kim Buck and Dr. Robert Weiss. Drawing on their clinical experience, they set out to challenge traditional codependency thinking and offer a more compassionate, attachment-informed approach to supporting those who love someone facing significant mental health challenges.

But Prodependence™ reaches far beyond these circumstances. Its principles offer a meaningful framework for personal growth, couples, families, and relationships of all kinds.

At its heart is a simple but powerful belief: Caring for someone and caring for yourself should never have to be competing priorities. Healthy love makes room for both—with compassion, boundaries, mutual respect, and meaningful connection.

The Connection Project

The Connection Project is an attachment-informed, research-based curriculum written and developed by Dr. Kim Buck, drawing on more than 23 years of clinical experience working with individuals and couples impacted by compulsive sexual behaviors and intimate betrayal. Evolved from the successful SABR program, The Connection Project builds on its established foundation while placing greater emphasis on secure relationships, emotional health, healing attachment injuries, and authentic intimacy.

Grounded in the principles of Prodependence™, the program moves beyond labels, pathology, and shame to focus on connection, accountability, resilience, and meaningful personal growth. Through original workbooks, structured classes, and practical exercises, participants develop the understanding and skills needed to support lasting change and healthier relationships.

Informed by attachment science, interpersonal neurobiology, and the work of leading researchers and clinicians, The Connection Project reflects a guiding belief behind Dr. Buck's work: lasting healing is about more than changing behaviors—it's about changing how we connect.

Beyond the Nest

Your kids grew up. Now your parenting gets to grow, too.

Parenting doesn't end when children become adults—but the relationship needs to change.

Created by Dr. Kim Buck, Beyond the Nest grew from her years of clinical experience and her own journey as a parent of adult children. Recognizing how challenging this transition can be, she developed a practical, relationship-focused program grounded in Prodependent Parenting™.

The program helps parents navigate the delicate balance of staying close while letting go of control, offering support without rescuing, setting boundaries without creating distance, and replacing worry with greater trust and confidence.

At its heart is a simple but meaningful shift: The goal is no longer to direct our children's lives, but to build relationships they want to remain connected to.

Less directing. More connecting.
